9 Steps To Get Rid of Spiritual Blindness

Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
Matthew 20:30-34 New International Version (NIV)

There is so much to to be learned from this short story. Really we can apply the principles from this story to every aspect of our lives relationships, business, healing, spiritual growth. These are core steps that will have you achieve your desired results.

Step One: Humble Yourself
The two blind had to humble themselves. What man do you know will sit there are cry out to another man for help? Even when people get into a bad situation often times their pride still gets in the way of them asking for help. The two blind men put their pride aside and acknowledged that they needed help. Not only did they acknowledge that the need help but they called Jesus Lord. To be Lord means to have authority, control or power over others. The blind men were not ashamed or afraid to acknowledge that Jesus had more power than they had. It's not easy for people to give up power. We like the way it feels, we feel in control but if someone else has more influence than you do sometimes you need to take the back seat and let them do what they do best.

Step Two: Believe
To believe means to "have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so". The two blind men believed that Jesus was who he said he was and was who they had heard about. They did not have any doubt. They believed that Jesus had the power to heal them and believed that they could be healed. Too many times we believe things can happen but then we think we are not worth it. Believe that you are worth it! They had a strong confidence in Jesus and they had a strong confidence that they could be healed. Do you have a strong confidence? A confidence that is unshakeable? A confidence that is unbreakable?

Step Three: Have Faith
Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Martin Luther King Jr. said "Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase." Don't be consumed by the how just believe that it can happen and because of you faith the thing that you ask for will come to pass. As the blind men were sitting along the roadside they just heard that Jesus was coming. They never heard his voice before or saw his face but they had a strong hope that what they had petitioned for in their heart would soon be manifested in their lives.

Step Four: Take Action..Activate Your Faith!
Faith without works is dead! The two blind men didn't just sit there wishing that Jesus would notice them in the crowd of people they took action! They began to cry out and pray! "Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David!" They took action until they were noticed and their request was granted. What actions do you need to take in your situation? Do you need to cry out? Do you need to act upon an inspired idea? Take action on it TODAY!

Step Five: Ignore the Haters
"And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: BUT THEY CRIED THE MORE" Don't let your haters stop you! Let them fuel you to achieve what you want! People will try to stop your progress. They're going to say negative things. They're going to question your behavior. Don't allow your haters to dictate your future!

Step Six: Be Persistent...Persevere!
It's in your persistence and your perseverance that you build character. If you give up what will you have accomplished? If the two blind men would have given up they would have gone home the same...blind. In fact probably worse because they would have felt defeated. Self esteem low because no one helped them. They would have been stuck in the "woe is me" syndrome. However, they cried out until they got the attention of Jesus. Persevere until you get that which you are going after!

Step Seven: Ask For What You Want
This is where a lot of people mess up in life. They get the attention of the person they want...they have a captive audience but then don't ask for what is is that they want. ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT. When Jesus stood still and asked "What will ye that I shall do unto you?" the blind men didn't sit silently wishing that Jesus was going to say "oh I know what you want you want me to give you sight." No they opened their mouths and said "Lord, that our eyes may be opened." Because they made it clear with Jesus what they wanted Jesus IMMEDIATELY gave them their site.

Step Eight: Be Open to Receive

After you have asked for something be ready to receive it. We ask God for things and then when God makes a way we closed the door. An example I like to use is money. A person can pray to God and say Lord I need money. God sends someone to provide and then they say "oh no I can't accept that" knowing good and well you need it. If you pray and believe be open to receive. It would have been silly for the blind men to go through all the crying out, embarrassment, the praying for them to say to Jesus not it's ok Jesus you don't have to heal us even though we asked for it.

Step Nine: Follow the Truth
Once you are cured from being blind don't go back to those things that blinded you in the first place. Follow after the truth and learn how to keep your vision. After the two blind men received their sight they followed Jesus. They desired more. They had their sight but now they wanted to be exposed to everything else they had missed out on. They wanted to learn of Jesus ways...they wanted to stay with the power source.

“Love is that condition in the human spirit so profound that it allows me to survive, and better than that, to thrive with passion, compassion, and style.” Maya Angelou
"Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true."
Martin Luther King Jr.
